(Reuters) - WASHINGTON, July 9 - IntercontinentalExchange
Inc. , the upstart energy exchange that has been
embroiled in a hostile takeover bid for the Chicago Board of
Trade since March, opposes giving federal regulators
more authority over ICE's operations, the head of the exchange
said in prepared testimony on Monday.
The views of ICE Chairman Jeffrey Sprecher conflicted with
those of Sen. Carl Levin, chairman of the Senate Permanent
Subcommittee on Investigations. Levin seeks to give the
Commodity Futures Trading Commission the same regulatory
authority over ICE as it has over the competing New York
Mercantile Exch1ange .
