(Reuters) - BOSTON, July 25 - Symantec Corp. , the
maker of Norton software, reported higher-than-expected
quarterly profit on Wednesday, citing strong sales of backup
software programs and success in cutting costs, and its shares
soared 10 percent.
Chief Financial Officer James Beer partly attributed the
better-than-expected results to sales of the company's Backup
Exec software, one of its top-selling titles, which he said
totaled about $200 million during the quarter.
